OLED Related Knowledge and Light-emitting Principle You Need to Know

11.14.2023

Do you know OLED display? How much do you know about it? Next, let us understand it together!

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode, also known as organic electroluminescence display.

The OlED principle was discovered very early, but it wasn't until Kodak in 1987 that the Oled technology was realized and made into a light-emitting device.

OLED has many advantages that traditional light-emitting devices do not have. It emits light actively instead of passively, and is ultra-thin. Now some products have reached an extremely thin level, and can even achieve twists and turns. It is a flexible display. The viewing angle range is very wide, and the image can be seen from almost any angle, with low power consumption and low power consumption.

It is precisely because OLED has so many advantages that the technology has developed rapidly in recent years. From the development of a monochromatic OLED dot matrix display by the Japanese Pioneer Company in 1997, to full-color display, and then to the later application of OLED to car audio. SONY finally launched an OLED TV in 2009 with a thickness of only 3mm, which caused a sensation in the industry.

With the advancement of OLED manufacturing technology, the yield rate has increased and the cost has been reduced. OLED began to be used in mobile phone screens. For example, Samsung's S, S2, S3, S4 and other mobile phones all use OLED screens, and curved screen technology has been implemented on mobile phones. In the past few years, more large-screen products, such as TVs, have begun to use OLED, but the cost of OLED is still relatively high.

Although it started late, many companies and institutions in my country have invested a lot of energy and material resources in the research and development of OLED products.

After the carriers are injected into the organic semiconductor, the electrons and holes recombine and emit light. OLED can be divided into PLED and OLED according to the material. According to the drive, it can be divided into active drive and passive drive. Active drive OLED is referred to as AMOLED for short, and passive drive is referred to as PMOLED for short. The current more mature technology is active drive technology.

The OLED manufacturing process is very complicated, from the preparation of OLED organic light-emitting diodes to the packaging process. There is still a need to improve the yield and reduce production costs.
