How does COG-LCD realize the display screen?

09.25.2023

Everyone is familiar with LCD screens, but if they are subdivided by structure, many structures are not very clear to everyone. For example, the LCD liquid crystal display will be controlled by a wired drive circuit, the horizontal direction is called the Gate Driver, and the vertical direction is called the Source Driver. COG is the abbreviation of Chip On Glass. The structure is to bind the source driver and gate driver chips on the thin film transistor liquid crystal glass. The timing control board uses 4 flexible connectors to connect with the glass end to complete the screen display.

The following is to introduce how the COG LCD screen is to achieve the display screen.

1. The timing control module will be converted to a low-voltage differential molecular signal to a miniature low-voltage differential signal delivered to the source - overlay.

2. Timing control board module also input a set of control signals to the source - grid - overlay.

3. The power supply module will convert the input power supply to supply the LCD needs analog supply voltage, logic supply voltage, gate open/close voltage, common terminal voltage, these voltages will be delivered to the source and gate-covering film.

4. Gamma module through the resistive divider buffer or can be programmed gamma way to divide the analog supply voltage into more than ten groups of gamma voltage to the source - overlay film.

5. The source and gate-overlay films pass the respective processed signals to the thin-film transistor liquid crystal display to precisely control the switching of each TFT circuit to display various images with the backlight.

The above is the process of COG LCD implementation. With this technology, the process is simplified and the IC is directly bonded to the conductive pole of the LCD, reducing the welding process. COG LCDs are widely used in: cell phones, PDAs, MP3s, watches, information phones, handheld instruments, etc.
